JACK IN THE BOX is the debut solo studio album by BTS member j-hope, released on July 15, 2022 through Big Hit Music. The album marked the beginning of BTS’s Chapter 2 era of individual projects and introduced a darker, more experimental artistic direction for j-hope compared to his earlier work. Inspired by the concept of opening a “box” that reveals the artist’s inner thoughts and fears, the album was promoted with the singles MORE and Arson, both highlighting a bold new sound and concept.

The album blends hip hop, alternative, rock influenced rap, and old school hip hop elements that showcase j-hope’s evolution as a solo artist and performer. Tracks such as MORE, Arson, and = (Equal Sign) explore themes of ambition, pressure, identity, and personal growth, presenting a cohesive narrative that reflects both the challenges and passion behind his career in music. JACK IN THE BOX achieved strong international chart success and critical attention following its release. The album debuted at number 17 on the Billboard 200, becoming j-hope’s highest charting solo release at the time, and sold over 470,000 copies in South Korea where it later received Platinum certification. The project also charted across major global markets and was widely praised for its bold concept and artistic experimentation, further strengthening j-hope’s presence as a solo artist among ARMY worldwide.
