THE ASTRONAUT is the debut solo single album by BTS member Jin, released on October 28, 2022 through Big Hit Music. The release marked Jin’s first official solo single and arrived shortly before his military enlistment, making it a meaningful moment for fans. The song was co written with members of the British band Coldplay and was promoted with the lead single The Astronaut, a heartfelt track that reflects themes of love, gratitude, and connection with ARMY.

The single blends pop rock and soft pop elements with emotional vocals that highlight Jin’s strengths as a vocalist. Led by The Astronaut, the release features the main track along with instrumental versions, delivering a warm and atmospheric sound that emphasizes reflective lyrics and a dreamy melodic style. The collaboration with Coldplay also brought a distinctive musical tone that complements Jin’s expressive performance.

THE ASTRONAUT achieved strong global chart success and impressive sales following its release. The song debuted at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Jin’s first solo entry on the chart, while also reaching number 10 on the Billboard Global 200 and number 6 on the Global Excl. US chart. The physical single sold over 700,000 copies on its first day in South Korea, setting a record for the highest first day sales for a solo single on the Hanteo Chart and further demonstrating Jin’s global popularity among ARMY worldwide.
