(G)I-DLE - I burn

I burn is the fourth Korean mini album by South Korean girl group (G)I-DLE, released on January 11, 2021 through CUBE Entertainment. Following the group's darker 2020 release I trust and the bright summer single DUMDi DUMDi, the album explores the complicated emotions that follow separation, focusing on the process of moving through sadness and eventually finding happiness again. I burn continues the group's “I” series while presenting a winter-inspired concept built around loneliness, heartbreak, and renewal.

The six-track I burn opens with “HANN (Alone in winter),” which connects the story of the 2018 song “HANN (Alone)” to the title track by portraying the loneliness and bitterness of separation. “HWAA” then transforms those emotions into a moombahton-based dark pop track with traditional-inspired instrumentation, using fire and flowers as imagery for overcoming the coldness of heartbreak. “MOON” takes a more intimate approach, while “Where is love” brings a retro sound with funky bass, and “LOST” and “DAHLIA” continue the album's exploration of love and emotional uncertainty.

With I burn, (G)I-DLE presented a cohesive winter concept while continuing to highlight the members' creative involvement in their music. Soyeon, Minnie, and Yuqi contributed to the songwriting and composition across the album, helping give the release its distinct mix of emotional storytelling and varied K-pop production. The album became an important release in the group's early discography and remains a notable album for Neverland.
