YENA - HATE XX - POCA ALBUM Version

YENA released her second single album, HATE XX, on June 27, 2023, through Yuehua Entertainment, continuing to explore the more complex emotions introduced in her previous release, LOVE WAR. This K-pop release centres on frustration, disappointment, and the uncomfortable feelings that can emerge from relationships and expectations. With a bold visual concept and YENA’s expressive personality at its core, HATE XX combines her signature playful energy with a sharper, more rebellious attitude. The result is a release that challenges the idea that every emotion needs to be presented positively, allowing room for anger and imperfection.

The title track “Hate Rodrigo,” featuring (G)I-DLE’s Yuqi, blends pop-rock influences with bright, energetic instrumentation and an immediately memorable hook. Inspired by the feeling of envy towards someone admired, the song approaches jealousy with exaggerated humour and a playful sense of self-awareness rather than treating it as a purely negative emotion. Its lively arrangement contrasts with the frustration expressed in the lyrics, creating a sound that is both catchy and intentionally provocative. The B-side “WICKED LOVE” offers another dimension to the single album, adding to its exploration of complicated feelings and reinforcing the darker edge of YENA’s evolving musical direction.

The three-track single album also includes “BAD HOBBY,” which introduces a more mischievous, assertive attitude, while “WICKED LOVE” explores the darker side of romance through a tense atmosphere and lyrics about rejecting a painful relationship. Together, the songs create a compact release that moves between playful confidence and emotional intensity. HATE XX stands out in YENA’s discography for its bold concept, varied musical direction, and willingness to explore less comfortable emotions, making it a memorable addition to any K-pop collection.
