MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 is the fourth Korean studio album by global K pop group BTS, released on February 21, 2020 through Big Hit Entertainment as a continuation of the Map of the Soul series following MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA. The album reflects on the group’s seven year journey since debut while exploring themes of identity, self reflection, and personal growth inspired by psychological concepts. The era was promoted with the singles Black Swan and ON, presenting a powerful and introspective concept that highlights BTS’s artistic maturity.

The album features a wide blend of hip hop, pop, trap, R&B, and orchestral influences that showcase BTS’s versatility and storytelling. Led by ON, the project includes standout tracks such as Black Swan, Filter, My Time, and Moon, combining emotional solo performances with large scale group songs that reflect on fame, passion for music, and the challenges of self discovery. Across its 19 tracks, the album balances introspective moments with energetic performances that continue the narrative themes introduced in the Map of the Soul era.

MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 achieved massive global success and became one of BTS’s most commercially successful releases. The album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 with 422,000 equivalent album units in its first week, marking BTS’s fourth number one album in the United States. It also broke records in South Korea as the country’s best selling album, surpassing four million copies and topping charts in multiple countries including the United Kingdom and the United States, further cementing BTS’s global influence and their connection with ARMY worldwide.
