BTS - BUTTER

BUTTER is a special single album by global K pop group BTS, released on July 9, 2021 through Big Hit Music. The physical release followed the worldwide success of the English language digital single Butter, which was first released in May 2021 and quickly became a global summer hit. The single album also introduced the additional track Permission to Dance, expanding the release with a bright and uplifting message about joy, positivity, and dancing through difficult times.

The release contains four tracks including Butter, Permission to Dance, and instrumental versions of both songs. Blending pop, dance pop, and funk inspired production, the songs highlight BTS’s polished performance style and global appeal, with Butter delivering a smooth, upbeat sound while Permission to Dance brings an optimistic anthem focused on freedom and happiness.

BUTTER achieved massive commercial success worldwide and set multiple sales records. The CD single sold about 1.97 million copies in its first week on the Hanteo Chart, the highest first week sales for any release in South Korea in 2021 and one of the largest first week totals in the chart’s history. The release also topped the Oricon Weekly Album Chart in Japan and further strengthened BTS’s global dominance and connection with ARMY around the world.
